The Calvert-Prince Frederick Club has celebrated YAW since 1969, and this program is considered our most important to the community and most rewarding to our members and the partnering with the Solomons Club in 2015, we are truly celebrating YAW for all of Calvert County.
Forty high school seniors (ten 10 from each high school) are selected through coordination with the Guidance Staff and teachers at each of the county’s high schools who they evaluate and deem appropriate students deserving recognition as an Outstanding Youth of Calvert County.
The YAW program focuses seniors that are all-around good students. The goal is to identify students who are influential leaders in their school and community. The Club limits selections to students with a minimum GPA indicating a ‘B’ average (80.00+GPA) and have been recognized for their activities, efforts and achievements in academics, physical wellbeing, the arts, and community service. We aren’t trying to just identify the all-star athlete or the straight ‘A’ student; although these students should not be ignored as academic achievement and physical well-being are important factors in selecting students to be honored.
