Governor’s Last Message as Governor

All clubs should be ensuring all of their required reports have been submitted, dues paid and CPA Books submitted. You have 4 days remaining in which to complete any Honor Club Requirements! Just do it!

In my 09 September Governor’s message I reported our MDSD District stood at either #4 or #5 in all of Optimist International in percentage of growth! However, as of today the MDSD District went from a positive membership growth to a negative membership growth because of several large drops in membership by a few clubs. Our District is no longer eligible for honor status. This is unfortunate but a fact of life.

The really sad impact of our membership loss is that we have reduced the number of young people we can serve. The loss of a member is always a sad event, however, these losses can have a silver lining if the club has retained those members who are willing to work and build excitement in your community. So “stay in the arena” take the risk of achieving success and continue to work for the youth of your community.

The end of our optimist year is an exciting time of year as we all look forward to “Bringing Out The Best In Kids”! It is also the time to evaluate the accomplishment of your club’s goals—how well did you do? You still have 4 days to accomplish those remaining goals. Let’s give the new “kids on the block”, our incoming officers, a solid foundation upon which to build. Remember your club and our District’s futures depend upon each one of us. Let’s work to make your club grow, continue to accomplish our mission and help more kids!

This is my last message as your MDSD Governor 2008-2009, a most heartfelt thank you for all of your support and your efforts to make our communities a better place. To our incoming 2009-2010 Team I wish you “fair winds and following seas” and great successes!
